Just a week after heartbreak at the Euro 2024 final, England footballer Ollie Watkins was nothing but smiles as he proposed to his longtime girlfriend, Ellie Alderson.
The striker, 28, and his new fiancee Ellie, also 28, shared photos from the idyllic Lake Como proposal to Instagram.
Ollie captioned his pictures: ‘Future wifey!! It was only right,’ with a heart emoji while Ellie wrote beneath hers: ‘Special night in Lake Como with my fiancé, ahhhh sooo happy,’ with a heart and ring emoji.
In the first image, both are stood on a balcony filled with white flowers and dressed in all-white as Ollie popped the question to Ellie with the lake and hills in the backdrop.
Another photo shows Ellie sitting on Ollie’s lap with her hand on his cheek (sporting the fresh diamond ring) as she leans in for a kiss.
They then shared a few more snaps of the dreamy Italian view.
Friends and fans flocked to the comments to congratulate the happy couple.
TV personality Josh Denzel wrote: ‘My guy! Congratulations to you both.’
Footballer Reece Cole added: ‘Congrats mate!’. As did fellow pro Morgan Rogers who said: ‘Congratulations brother.’
‘So so happy for you all! CONGRATULATIONS and loads of love xxx,’ @park_lane_stables echoed.
Over on Ellie’s Instagram, her twin sister Sofia wrote: ‘Thank the lord Jesus Christ!!!! Hallelujah!!! Congratulations- what a summer. Love u both xxxx’. And a recently engaged Dani Dyer also extended her congratulations.
After getting engaged the loved-up couple were spotted out and about in Milan, making the most of their European getaway.
The sweethearts first got together in 2018 and now live in Birmingham where they share two children – two-year-old daughter Amara May who they welcomed in September 2021, and one-year-old son Marley who was born in April 2023.
Ellie has a diploma in interior design and a depop shop where she sells second-hand designer pieces. The couple regularly share photos of themselves together and as a family.
Meanwhile, Ellie was a familiar face with the rest of the WAGs as the England football team played in Germany earlier this month for the Euros. At one point, Ellie was spotted passionately kissing her boyfriend in the stands.
At another point during the football tournament, she shared her pride at Ollie’s last-minute goal in an Instagram post with the caption: ‘You got your moment and you took it!!!!! I am soooo proud of you.’
Despite the team’s best efforts, England lost to Spain in the finals.
Now, Ollie will return to his home team Aston Villa which he joined in 2020 as wedding planning gets fully underway.
