A woman in her 30s has died after being mauled by a dog in Coventry.

The victim, who has not been named, was attacked in a home on Wexford Road shortly after midday.

Police and paramedics attended following multiple 999 calls and efforts were made to save her, but she died a short time later.

The breed of the dog is ‘yet to be confirmed’ but detectives ‘do not believe it to be of a banned breed’, said Chief Inspector David Amos of West Midlands police.

He added: ‘We understand that this is a distressing and tragic incident and we would like to thank the local community for their support and to our emergency services colleagues who dealt with this incident.

‘Our thoughts remain firmly with the family and loved ones of the woman who has sadly died and will be informing the coroner of her death.’

A full assessment will take place to confirm the breed of the dog.
