Seldon’s body was recovered at around 9:05 p.m. by the Utah DePartment of Public Safety dive team, and the sheriff’s office said its initial investigation points Seldon’s death to being a “tragic accident.”

“Our football program is heartbroken to have to endure the loss of one of our own,” Utah State
interim head coach and defensive coordinator Nate Dreiling said in a release. “Having had a previous
relationship with Andre during our time together at New Mexico State, I can tell you he was
an incredible person and teammate. Our condolences and prayers go out to Andre’s family
as we grieve with them over this tremendous loss.”

Seldon was entering his fifth year of college football and his first at Utah State after transferring from New Mexico State, where he spent the last two seasons and was a team captain.

A four-star prospect out of Belleville High School in Michigan, Seldon began his collegiate career at University of Michigan, appearing in one game in each of his first two years before transferring to New Mexico State, where Dreiling was the defensive coordinator the last two seasons.

“Our Utah State University Athletics family is devastated over the sudden death of Andre Seldon
Jr.,” Utah State vice president and director of athletics Diana Sabau said in a release. “We extend our deepest sympathies and heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, teammates, and all who loved
Andre.”
