Rep. Josh Schriver drafting bill to give Trump ‘unlimited’ protection resources in Michigan after shooting

LANSING, Mich. — Michigan Republican state Rep. Josh Schriver is writing a bill that would provide “unlimited” protection resources to former president Donald Trump whenever he visits the state.

The announcement came just four days after Trump was nearly assassinated at July 13 campaign event in Butler, Pa.

“In light of the left-wing assassination attempt on former President Trump’s life, I’m currently drafting a policy for Michigan to provide the presumptive next president of the United States unlimited law enforcement resources toward his protection every time he visits Michigan between now and his inauguration,” Schriver tweeted.

Schriver feels the shooting in Pennsylvania was a security “disaster,” with a lack of resources contributing to the consequences.

“A nation as great as America deserves nothing but the best security for her prospective president,” Schriver told The Post.

“This bill not only beefs up law enforcement to secure the prospective president, it also acts as a crystal clear PSA to aspiring terrorists and individuals who recklessly give orders for political violence, like that guy in the band Tenacious D. An assassination attempt like July 13 will never come close to happening ever again. Michigan won’t allow it.”

Schriver said “unlimited” in this case means “whatever is necessary”: “Anything less is an obvious national-security risk.”

The 31-year-old legislator told The Post he sees toxic political rhetoric, particularly from Democrats, as a serious threat to public safety.

“There have been countless calls for political violence from the left wing, specifically against Trump,” he said.

“Numerous examples of the left’s recklessly violent rhetoric against Trump can be easily found over the past eight years.”

Sources in the Michigan statehouse, which is on recess, confirmed the earliest Schriver could drop off his bill for consideration is July 30, when the chamber reconvenes briefly.

Democrats control both Michigan’s House and Senate, but Schriver said his bill “should pass if we care about national security.”
