The casket carrying the remains of the volunteer fire chief killed at Donald Trump’s rally on Saturday arrived at a Pennsylvania church Friday morning, draped in the US flag, ahead of his funeral.
Dozens of onlookers paid their respects as the casket of Corey Comperatore, 50, were carried into the Cabot, Penn., church for the 11 a.m. service.
Comperatore was killed while trying to shield his family when a gunman opened fire from a factory rooftop during Donad Trump’s rally at the Butler Farm Show grounds Saturday evening.
The former president, 78, was grazed by a bullet during the assassination attempt, and two other rally goers were critically wounded.
Trump paid tribute to the slain husband and father during his speech at the Republican National Convention Thursday night.
Comperatore was honored with a public procession in Freeport on Thursday.
The funeral services will be private, followed by a procession of up to 500 fire trucks from the church to the Buffalo Township Volunteer Fire Company in Sarver, where Comperatore served for several years, the New York Times reported.
