Calgary attempted murder suspect already facing allegations he assaulted the same woman, court records show

Stoochnoff was arrested early Saturday morning at a northwest Calgary hotel after a woman was transported to hospital Friday evening with multiple stab wounds

The suspect in what police are calling a domestic-related attempted murder was already facing assault charges involving the same woman.

Justice Bruce Fraser revoked Stoochnoff’s bail on charges he was already facing before the court at the request of Crown prosecutor Graham Richardson.

Duty counsel Cailey Severson appeared in court for Stoochnoff, who attended proceedings via video link from the Calgary Remand Centre, and asked that the case be adjourned to next week while he seeks to retain a defence lawyer.

“The Crown is opposed to Mr. Stoochnoff’s release today and I understand my friend will have an application,” Severson said, before Richardson proceeded to ask that the accused’s previous release order be revoked.

Stoochnoff, 30, had been free on $600 cash bail with conditions that included he have no contact with Tenille Elliot.

He faces two charges of assaulting Elliot, on March 30 and June 29 of this year, along with a mischief to property charge on the latter date.

Stoochnoff also faces a series of unrelated April 22, 2023, allegations out of Strathmore which include a charge he assaulted another woman, Makayla McKinney, with a weapon and three of breaching a peace bond.

He was arrested early Saturday morning at a northwest Calgary hotel after a woman was transported to hospital Friday evening with multiple stab wounds.

Police said a woman had to be assisted by neighbours after fleeing her unit in a Quarry Way S.E. residential building after being repeatedly stabbed.

Stoochnoff was tracked to the Traveller’s Inn on 16 Ave. N.W., police said.

The CPS tactical unit entered the rented room and arrested Stoochnoff around 1:35 a.m. on Saturday.

His case is back in court next Wednesday.
