Simone Biles opens up about embracing her hair: ‘I’m not embarrassed about it anymore’

Simone Biles doesn’t have time for amateur beauty critics.

The most decorated gymnast of all time opened up to Elle magazine in a recent interview, speaking to the backlash she’s received over her hair.

“I used to worry about [my hair being considered] not professional,” she told the publication. “But I’m not embarrassed about it anymore.”

With the 2024 Paris Olympics coming up on July 26, Biles, 27, also touched on her glam game plan for the competition, noting that she plans to keep things on the practical side.

“I don’t want my extensions falling out or this that [and] the other,” she said, pointing out that the team doesn’t “get to bring a makeup artist or a hairstylist.”

She also told the publication that she’s cautious about adding “too much product in your hair to the point where it starts flaking and gets dirty.”

Still, Biles does have fellow gymnast and teammate Jordan Chiles to rely on when it comes to hairstyling.

“She’s the [hair] braider on the team,” Biles revealed. “We can all go to her for braids.”

Of course, the four-time Olympic gold medalist is no stranger to people sharing opinions on her looks, even receiving some hate regarding her wedding look in 2023.

After saying “I do” to NFL pro Jonathan Owens while wearing a ponytail, people took to X (formerly Twitter0 to share their thoughts, calling it “a mess” and saying that her “edges should have been laid.”

“i think they also forget i live in HOUSTON TEXAS & I sweat those out!! soon as we stepped outside for pics,” Biles fired back on the platform.

“but they can keep complaining idc idc idc,” she added.

Many, however, came to her defense.

“Simone Biles is one of THEE top gymnasts we’ve ever seen, has overcame situations of abuse and other obstacles in her childhood, has defined her own success and found love and is now happily married…,” one defender wrote. “And y’all worried about her hair…..?!”

Thankfully, it appears the star isn’t too bothered by negative comments.

Biles recently gave fans a sneak peek at what’s to come, dominating her floor routine during the Olympic gymnastic trials as she performed to Taylor Swift’s “Ready For It.”
