The Simpsons star Hank Azaria fails to get royal guard to crack a smile despite best efforts

The Simpsons star Hank Azaria has done his best to try and make a royal guard smile with a series of impressions.

The American actor, 60, is best known for voicing many characters in the long-running animated sitcom since it launched in 1989.

Some of them include Moe Szyslak, Chief Wiggum, Superintendent Chalmers, Comic Book Guy, Snake Jailbird, Professor Frink, Kirk Van Houten and Duffman.

His work on the show has seen him win four Primetime Emmy Awards, but his skills weren’t enough to impress a particularly stoic figure recently.

This week Hank posted a video from a recent trip to London in which he tried to impress one of the King’s Guards, who are famed for their ability to keep a straight face.

Speaking to the person behind the camera filming, Hank said he was keen to see if the guard at the Tower of London was a Simpsons fan at all.

‘Sir I do voices on The Simpsons,’ he began before jumping into a series of impressions from his best-known characters.

However, the guard didn’t react at all, with Hank shocked that his attempts seemed to be failing.

‘He seems impenetrable,’ Hank said to the camera.

Accepting he wasn’t going to be successful, Hank nodded and bowed to the guard, before the video cut out.

Many of his fans rushed to comment on the hilarious video, with many saying they would have struggled not to crack a smile themselves.

‘Give that dude a raise. I would’ve been smiling immediately. You’re amazing Hank,’ user Sam shared on the TikTok episode.

‘Not even a smirk?! Best Guard Ever,’ Kim posted.

‘Looks too young to have seen The Simpsons,’ Hugo added.

Meanwhile Lulu had a theory: ‘Plot twist, he’s never seen an episode and has no idea who the weird guy doing crazy voices is.’

Another, Sarah, suggested the guard might have expressed his excitement as soon as he clocked off for the day: ‘The guard after his shift: y’all… Hank Azaria came by and did all of his voices for me!!!’

Hank is far from the first person to try and make one of the royal guard’s laughs, however many others usually fail too.

The rules for the guards are so strict, they can face the risk of getting fired if reacting, even if presented with one of the most prolific voice actors of all time.
