Immigration minister Marc Miller’s Montreal office vandalized by protesters

The Liberal MP took to social media to describe the vandalism as a “criminal act.”

The Montreal offices of Liberal MP and federal Immigration Minister Marc Miller suffered what appeared to be thousands of dollars of damage after being vandalized on Thursday.

The St-Jacques St. office’s windows were smashed and covered with pink paint and vandals wrote: “Marc Miller Child Killer” in spray paint across the office’s facade.

Miller took to social media to describe the vandalism as a “criminal act.” He added that for the past few months, his offices had been threatened “daily.” Miller repeated that people had a right to protest but to do so peacefully.

“This was no longer a peaceful demonstration.”

Pro-Palestinian protesters have taken responsibility on Twitter and Instagram. An Instagram post says the action is “a reminder that the mobilizations will not end and that we will not give in to the genocidal state.”

Montreal police have set up a perimeter at the office and are investigating the scene.

Police spokesperson Sabrina Gauthier said one element investigators would like to examine is whether the office was equipped with an alarm system and, if so, why no alert was received at the 911 central. Police were informed of the incident after a passerby called 911 to report the damage.

Gauthier said the vandals had also entered the offices and spread paint on the walls and damage to the interior was the site was severe.

Local surveillance cameras will also be examined to determine how the incident unfolded, Gauthier said.
