Ingrid Andress has gone viral for her widely panned national anthem performance.
The country singer sang “The Star-Spangled Banner” — which one sarcastic X user called the “Star Strangled Banner” — at the MLB Home Run Derby in July 2024.
Not only did Philadelphia Phillies player Alec Bohm struggle to contain his laughter as Andress hit high notes, but social media had a heyday as the “painful” clip circulated online.
“I sing like this at home … alone,” one troll wrote at the time, with another quipping, “When real life is a parody.”
The Grammy nominee, who has been releasing music since 2019, has yet to respond to the criticism.

Her country career
Before Andress began releasing her own music, she co-wrote songs for Charli XCX, Bebe Rexha and more artists as part of her June 2014 publishing deal with Sea Gayle Music and Arthouse Entertainment.
She signed with Warner Nashville and Atlantic Records in July 2018 and released her debut single, “More Hearts Than Mine,” the following June.
When her debut album, “Lady Like,” was released in March 2020, it set the record as the highest streaming country female debut album of all time, according to her label.
That year, Andress was nominated for Grammy Awards for best country song, best country album and best new artist.
Her fourth nomination came in November 2022 after she and Sam Hunt dropped their “Wishful Drinking” collaboration, which appeared as a bonus track on her second album, “Good Person,” released that August.
In July 2024, Andress teased her forthcoming single, “Colorado 9,” via Instagram.
Her upbringing
Although Andress was born in Southfield, Mich., she was raised in Highland Ranch, Colo. — and repped her state’s team during her national anthem performance with a Colorado Rockies jersey.
She has four siblings — three sisters and a brother — and refers to herself as a “recovering homeschooler” in her Instagram bio.
Her dad, Brad Andress, worked as a strength and conditioning coach with the Detroit Tigers, the Rockies, the New York Mets and the University of Michigan.
Her education
Ingrid began her public school education at Rock Canyon High School, where she performed with the choir.
She subsequently attended the Berklee College of Music with majors in songwriting and performance — but dropped out to join the a cappella group Pitch Slapped and compete in NBC’s “The Sing-Off.”
After placing sixth with the group Delilah, Ingrid returned to the college, finishing her degree in 2013.
Her love life
Ingrid broke up with her boyfriend of six years during the COVID-19 pandemic, telling People in August 2022 that her significant other was “not growing with” her.
“Since the whole world was turned upside down anyway, I was like, ‘Meh, might as well join it. Just flip my whole life over,’” she recalled. “Like, ‘What else do I have to lose at this point?’”
The artist confirmed to the magazine at the time that she was “much happier” two years into a new relationship, which she has kept private.
