Montreal weather: Heat warning extended, but the end is in sight

A risk of a thunderstorm Tuesday evening could be a break from the monotony.

Montreal’s latest heat wave will hang on a little longer.

Humidex values Tuesday and Wednesday will be between 35 and 37 degrees Celsius, Environment Canada says in its heat warning. Nevertheless, it says it expects the humid air mass that is causing this soggy mess to exit Wednesday night.

A risk of a thunderstorm Tuesday evening could be a break from the monotony.

Drink plenty of water regularly, even before you feel thirsty, the meteorological agency says, to decrease the risk of dehydration.

Early signs of heat illness include feeling unwell, fatigue, thirst and headache and indicate the need to move to a cooler area, such as an air-conditioned space, immediately.

Expect a high of 26 C Tuesday, with a humidex of 35 and a UV index of 9, or very high. At night, a low of 22 C.

Earth is in the danger zone, but we’re not out of hope just yet, says Gwynne Dyer, author or Intervention Earth: Life-Saving Ideas From the World’s Climate Engineers. Interviewing 100 climate scientists — proper in-depth interviews, two cameras, lights, the lot — was a crash course in coping strategies, she says.

“There were many moments in my interviews with them when I shared their despair. Yet I have come away with some hope for the future.”
