After Donald Trump picked freshman Ohio Sen. JD Vance to run as his Vice President, we hear Don Jr. had a lot to do with the choice, with some saying he even has an eye on his own future political aspirations.

“Don Jr. and Vance are besties now,” a source told Page Six. “Rumor is that people are thinking Don Jr. could get on the ticket as VP in 2028,” if Vance eventually runs for President.

Trump announced the news on his social media platform, Truth Social, on Monday, as the Republican National Convention kicks off.

Don Jr., 46, said of the choice, “It’s the American dream — he’s just gonna be an incredible pick.”

A source tells us there was buzz that Vance was locked in as Trump’s VP choice on Friday, ahead of the assassination attempt on Trump’s life at a rally in Butler, Penn., on Saturday.

In April the New York Times wrote about Vance and Don Jr.’s friendship, and that, “Mr. Vance owes his quick ascent into the Trump orbit to his unlikely friendship and ideological kinship with the former president’s oldest son.”

The piece added, “They text or talk nearly daily and try to meet up if they are in the same city, according to people who know them both. They are a social-media tag team, often reposting each other’s messages.”

We hear that Trump, 78, also “likes that Vance is a millionaire,” says our source.

Vance, 39, has his own venture capital firm, and previously worked for tech tycoon Peter Thiel.

Vance first made headlines with his book, “Hillbilly Elegy: A Memoir of a Family and Culture in Crisis,” about growing up around poverty and drug use in Appalachian Ohio.

The memoir was made into a movie starring Amy Adams.

It has also been reported that Trump likes the way that Vance looks. “He looks good,” he’s said. “He looks like a young Abraham Lincoln.”

In March, Don Jr. told the The Post he was pushing for Vance, amongst others, telling us, “I want a fighter.”

Vance was initially critical of Trump, but has voted along MAGA lines in recent times.

He even showed up in New York City in May to support Trump during his Stormy Daniels hush money trial.

Vance told reporters, “The thing that the president is prevented from saying, which is a disgrace, is that every single person involved in this prosecution is practically a Democratic political operative.”

Other names that were tossed around for VP included Gov. Doug Burgum and Sen. Marco Rubio.

Don Jr’s fiance Kimberly Guilfoyle is also a fan of Vance.

“I really like him personally,” she told NBC News. “I think he’s a good man. He’s a great father, a great husband, a great American who served the country. He’s intelligent, articulate contemplative.”
