The Simpsons fans noticed a last-minute schedule shake-up following the gun attack aimed at Donald Trump this weekend.

On Saturday evening (July 13) in a truly shocking moment, the former US President, 78, was wrestled to the ground by Secret Service agents after an attacker opened fire at his Pennsylvania rally.

The shooter was later identified as Republican Thomas Matthew Crooks, while Trump’s camp issued a message to say he was ‘fine’ after receiving medical attention.

In the aftermath of the shooting, Channel 4 was due to air The Simpsons episode titled Lisa the Iconoclast.

Taken from season 7, episode 16, the episode follows Lisa as she finds out that Springfield’s founder was a murderous pirate who tried to assassinate George Washington.

In true Lisa style, she takes it upon herself to spread to truth to her fellow citizens.

However, it was replaced with an alternative, with fans of the animated series taking to social media to address the elephant in the room.

‘Wondered at first why Channel 4 just pulled the scheduled broadcast of Lisa The Iconoclast, but I think I get’, tweeted RopesToInfinity.

Along with the post was a still from the scene where the President is shot at with a rifle, with social media users deciding the broadcaster deemed it too on-the-nose to air after yesterday’s events.

In place of Lisa the Iconoclast, which was the next episode in chronological order, Channel 4 aired a season 30 episode about self-driving cars.

‘Obsessed with the idea that Channel 4 thought someone in the UK would have another pop because of something they saw on The Simpsons’, wrote wrb91.

‘Top work whoever took the decision but crazy how this of all episodes was the one scheduled. The Simpsons’ weird coincidences continue…’, said TejasSandhu.

‘Okay I’d forgotten this scene was in this episode. Makes sense now’, added DeadlyMonkfish.

Others said it was ‘pretty impressive that someone at Channel 4 caught this in time’, while leonoldman declared: ‘The Simpsons crystal ball strikes again.’

Indeed, The Simpsons is no stranger to a coincidence.

The show has long been said to ‘predict’ major world events, tragedies, and pop culture moments, from the election of Trump to Super Bowl results, and from technological advances to the pandemic.

In fact, fans have already been digging following Trump’s rally attack, discovering that a past Simpsons episode depicted Trump’s funeral, with X users suffering this had foreshadowed an assassination attempt.

Following his assassination attempt, Trump was left with a bleeding ear.

‘President Trump thanks law enforcement and first responders for their quick action during this heinous act,’ spokesman Steven Cheung said in a statement.

‘He is fine and is being checked out at a local medical facility. More details will follow.’

In a statement posted to X, his wife, Melania Trump, later called the gunman a ‘monster’ who saw Trump as ‘an inhuman political machine’ and ‘attempted to ring out his passion’.

The 20-year-old shooter is accused of climbing onto a roof and opening fire live on television at the event.

Questions have been raised about the security operation at the rally and why the roof the gun was fired from was accessible.

An investigation is now underway, with current President Joe Biden, 81, sending well wishes to his opponent in the upcoming election.

Taking to social media, Biden wrote: ‘I have been briefed on the shooting at Donald Trump’s rally in Pennsylvania. I’m grateful to hear that he’s safe and doing well. I’m praying for him and his family and for all those who were at the rally, as we await further information.

‘Jill and I are grateful to the Secret Service for getting him to safety. There’s no place for this kind of violence in America. We must unite as one nation to condemn it.’
