Driver dead after collision with a truck in Ste-Croix

The driver of the truck, a man in his 50s, suffered no injuries.

A driver is dead following a violent collision with a large truck Sunday morning in Ste-Croix, in Quebec’s Chaudière-Appalaches region.

Emergency services arrived on Highway 271, near the 4th Rang East, at about 7 a.m. Both vehicles involved in the collision were travelling north, said Sûreté du Québec spokesperson Élizabeth Marquis-Guy.

The car collided with the truck as the truck was turning right, she said. “Following the impact, the car left the road and ended up in a ditch by the road.”

The driver of the car, a man in his 30s from Laurier-Station, was transported to hospital in critical condition; his death was declared soon after. The driver of the truck, a man in his 50s, was uninjured.

Route 271 was closed to traffic on Sunday for an indeterminate period for a police officer trained in collision investigation to inspect the scene to determine the circumstances of the event.
