Pedestrian, 60, seriously injured after van hits her in St-Jérôme

The woman was transported to hospital “for serious injuries that leave us fearing for her life,” police said.

A 60-year-old woman is in critical condition after a collision with a van in St-Jérôme on Saturday afternoon.

The accident occurred around 12:30 p.m. on Bélanger Blvd., according to Sûreté du Québec (SQ) spokesperson Nicolas Scholtus.

“According to initial information, for an unknown reason, a 35-year-old driver who was travelling westbound on Bélanger Blvd. lost control of his van before colliding with a 63-year-old pedestrian. The van ended up in the parking lot of a nearby business,” he said.

The woman was transported to hospital “for serious injuries that leave us fearing for her life,” Scholtus said.

The passengers in the van, a woman in her 30s and three people under the age of 18, were transported to hospital for minor injuries.

An investigation is underway by the major crimes investigation division of the SQ, in collaboration with the St-Jérôme police department.

Bélanger Blvd. is closed between Laviolette St. and Curé-Labelle Blvd. for an indefinite period.
