Shohei Ohtani, Bryce Harper, Aaron Judge top 2024 MLB jersey sales

It’s always a good sign when baseball’s brightest stars are driving the most fan interest.

On Friday, Major League Baseball’s official X account shared the top 10 players by jersey sales since the beginning of the 2024 season.

The list was topped by Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani, followed by Phillies All-Star Bryce Harper and Yankees captain Aaron Judge.

Two injured superstars — the Dodgers’ Mookie Betts and the Braves’ Ronald Acuna Jr. — were fourth and fifth, respectively, while Yankees All-Star Juan Soto slotted in at sixth.

The final four players listed included the Mets’ Francisco Lindor, the Padres’ Fernando Tatis Jr., the Rangers’ Corey Seager and the Astros’ Jose Altuve.

Topping jersey sale charts is nothing unorthodox to Ohtani, who broke a Fanatics record for most sales within 48 hours after he signed with Los Angeles on Dec. 9.

The 2022 AL MVP also ranked as the top jersey distributed throughout the 2023 season.

Acuna, Judge, Tatis, Betts and Altuve were also on that list, although the 2023 NL MVP experienced a slide from second to fifth — likely due to suffering his second torn ACL in four years.

As for players who didn’t experience continuity with sales, on-field performance is likely a major factor.

For example, the Mariners’ Julio Rodriguez was positioned seventh among player jersey sales last season, but the 23-year-old is hitting just .259 with nine home runs and 32 RBIs through 94 games in 2024.

Likewise, Angels superstar Mike Trout was 10th as of Sept. 2023 but missed the cut, potentially because of playing in only 29 games this season as he recovers from knee surgery.

In terms of surprise snubs from this year’s iteration, young Orioles superstars Gunnar Henderson and Adley Rutschman seemed viable candidates, as did Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman, Royals shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. and Pirates rookie sensation Paul Skenes.

MLB’s most prominent presences will venture to Arlington, Texas for All-Star break festivities, which kick off with the Home Run Derby on Monday night.
