One protester arrested during removal of pro-Palestinian encampment at McGill

The 21-year-old man allegedly assaulted a security guard, police say.

A 21-year-old man was arrested around 9:15 a.m. for allegedly assaulting a security guard who was involved in removing the camp, police spokesperson Jean-Pierre Brabant said.

The police were staying on Sherbrooke St. W., next to the downtown campus, while security guards hired by McGill carried on with removing the remnants of the camp, he added.

Sherbrooke remained open, Brabant said.

“Everything is going well,” he said.

The police planned to maintain a presence near the campus, Brabant said. They dispatched several units, including riot police and officers on bikes and horses.
