Elderly woman fatally struck by CTrain near Whitehorn station

The pedestrian was crossing westbound across 36th Street N.E. on the north side of the intersection

A woman in her 90s died after she was struck by a southbound CTrain while crossing a street in Whitehorn, according to Calgary police.

The pedestrian was crossing westbound across 36th Street N.E. on the north side of the intersection when she stepped in front of a train that was travelling south on the inbound track approaching the Whitehorn station.

CPS said in a statement the warning signals were on at the time of the collision. The driver brought the train to a stop.

The woman was declared deceased at the scene; there were no other injuries.

Police say excessive speed and alcohol are not considered factors in this collision.
