A new community on the west side of Chestermere — aptly named Bridgeport for its location as a connector point between Calgary and Chestermere, while embracing its relationship with the natural surroundings — has broken ground and is gearing up for show home openings come spring of 2025.

The recent ground-breaking event included a pipe ceremony in which elders from the Tsuut’ina Nation blessed the land and asked the Creator for protection over the coming years.

Located just north 17th Avenue S.E., south of Highway 1, and west of Rainbow Road, Bridgeport will offer the best of lakeside living (it’s minutes from Chestermere Lake), while providing a string of urban amenities, access to nature and a variety of housing choices.

Emily Smith, director of marketing and customer care for Qualico Communities, the developer behind Bridgeport, says the new community will be “brimming with beautiful park spaces, and will foster a strong sense of community.”

“Being on the west side of Chestermere, and abutting the border of the City of Calgary, this community will be a central hub for growth in this important corridor,” says Smith.

Known for its award-winning excellence in community design, Qualico Communities has a 70-year history of development. The company’s vice-president, Thilo Kaufmann, chalks up its success to “creating legacy communities that inspire pride, enrich lives and endure in value.”

“As a community that will cater to a diverse range of individuals and offer residents the opportunity to live in one place for a lifetime, Bridgeport will be no exception,” he says.

The co-developer behind the multi-award-winning community of Harmony in Springbank, Qualico Communities is also currently developing Dawson’s Landing, located just to the south of Bridgeport in Chestermere, as well as Ambleton, Hotchkiss, Crestmont View and Vermilion Hill in Calgary, Painted Sky in Langdon, Rivercrest and Southbow Landing in Cochrane and Vantage Rise in Airdrie.

Set to redefine the way that residents live, work and play, Bridgeport will offer residents a spectrum of year-round activities that spin around Chestermere’s defining amenity — Chestermere Lake, a 4.8-kilometre long man-made lake with several sandy beaches and public boat launches. Here residents can do it all, from waterskiing, swimming, kayaking and kite-surfing in the summer to ice-fishing, skating and snowmobiling in the winter. For those who enjoy land-based sports like golf, Lakeside Golf Club is nearby.

Nature lovers won’t have to go far. In fact, they can just step out their front door to breathe in fresh air and feast their eyes on prairie grasses and wild meadow flowers, as the 251-acre (101.6 hectare) community of Bridgeport will feature several green spaces, including three parks, a comprehensive pathway system, playing fields and a 12-acre natural wetland habitat that flows into feature stormwater ponds.

Keeping daily life simple, a string of amenities is close at hand, just a short drive down Highway 1 at East Hills Shopping Centre, which features several big brand stores — Costco, Walmart and Starbucks, among others, while Chestermere’s local offerings, including a No Frills grocery store, are a five-minute jaunt down Rainbow Road.

A diverse collection of retail and service offerings is also planned within Bridgeport, where a 3.76-acre (1.52 hectare) commercial hub is soon to be under development.

“We also know that shovel-ready school sites are extremely important in Chestermere, which is why we anticipate a ready school site in Phase 1 in 2025,” says Qualico’s Smith.

Housing options at Bridgeport will cater to a spectrum of buyers and include front-drive and laned single-family homes, laned duplex homes, and townhomes designed and built by a hand-selected builder group — Sterling Homes, NuVista Homes, Broadview Homes, Shane Homes, Trico Homes and Truman Homes. Architectural styling embodies the relaxed living vibe, while mirroring the beauty of the landscape and includes contemporary craftsman, contemporary prairie, mid-century modern and farmhouse designs. Exteriors will feature plenty of stone and brick, along with Hardie Plank siding and stucco.

Ten show homes will open in the spring of 2025.

Construction on Bridgeport is currently well under way with grading now complete.
