Ann Wilson of Heart announced Tuesday that the band will cancel its 2024 tour, including a Nov. 30 stop at the Saddledome, after revealing a cancer diagnosis.

“The operation was successful and I’m feeling great, but my doctors are now advising me to undergo a course of preventative chemotherapy and I’ve decided to do it,” the 74-year-old singer posted on social media. “And so my doctors are instructing me to take the rest of the year away from the stage in order to fully recover.”

She said she plans to return to the stage in 2025.

The band, led by Ann and her sister Nancy Wilson, formed in 1973 in Seattle and produced a number of hits that have become staples of classic-rock radio, including These Dreams, Barracuda, Crazy on You and Magic Man. Heart has sold 35 million records in their five-decade career.

The band spent much of its early years in Canada, signing with Vancouver-based Mushroom Records to record its classic Dreamboat Annie. BTO, featuring Randy Bachman, were scheduled to open the Nov. 30 show in Calgary.

In May, Heart cancelled the European leg of its tour so Ann Wilson could recover from what she called a “time-sensitive but routine medical procedure.”

The 2024 tour was scheduled to run until December, with stops in Ottawa, Toronto, Montreal, Winnipeg, Saskatoon, Edmonton and Vancouver.
