Koenigsegg blasts through 0-400-km/h-0 record in 27.83 sec

Several records were broken in that same pass, and the marque’s CEO says an attempt to crack 500 km/h is on the horizon

That wasn’t the only record smashed by Lundh during the world-record attempt, held June 27 at at an airfield in Örebro, Sweden: he topped out at a staggering 412 km/h (256 mph), and so also set records for quickest acceleration sprint from zero to 400 km/h (18.82 seconds); quickest from zero to 250 mph (402 km/h, in 19.2 seconds); and then the zero-to-250-mph-to-zero record (28.27 seconds).

The car used was the Absolut variant of the brand’s new Jesko; it’s built specifically for top-speed performance, and so features tweaks like vertical stabilizing fins in place of the drag-inducing spoiler of the base Jesko. The record-attempting Absolut was generally stock, though it was fitted with a roll cage and the driver’s seat from the marque’s One:1 model.

The Jesko Absolut that Lundh piloted was driven to those record speeds via a twin-turbocharged 5.0-liter V-8, churning out somewhere around 1,600 horsepower and running on E85 ethanol-blend fuel. Putting all of that power to the pavement were a set of Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tires, standard on the Jesko.

Once he pulls that off, Koenigsegg says he’s done with the top-speed record game, and will move on to breaking lap records on circuits around the globe with the more handling-focused variant of the Jesko, the Jesko Attack.
