Kyle Filipowski’s romance with his fiancée, Caitlin Hutchison, came under scrutiny in late June 2024 after his family accused her of “grooming” and isolating him from his loved ones.
The wild rumors first surfaced ahead of the 2024 NBA Draft after ESPN draft analyst Jonathan Givony reported that NBA teams passed up on Filipowski in the first round due to concerns about the sticky situation.
Soon after, the former Duke star’s older brother, Daniel Filipowski, claimed on X that Hutchison “forced him to cut [them] off from his life almost two years ago.”
“My brother is a victim and was unfortunately a ‘perfect’ pawn and target for this girl’s lifelong scheme based on his human characteristics and growing potential as a high-level prospect which started taking place in 2019, exactly at the time when she began her pursuit of him,” Daniel wrote on X on June 29.
Despite Daniel’s claim that Hutchison began her “pursuit” of Kyle in 2019, the pair didn’t start officially dating until December 2021, per her Instagram.

She is seven years his senior
Hutchison was born in September 1996, making her seven years older than Kyle, who was born in November 2003.
As previously mentioned, Hutchison became romantically involved with Kyle in December 2021 — one month after his 18th birthday.
At the time, Hutchison would have been around 25 years old.
She attended his high school senior prom
Hutchison accompanied Kyle to his senior prom in May 2022 and they both posted pictures from the big event.
“People will stare. Make it worth their while. 👑💨 #prom,” the Utah Jazz player captioned a carousel of photos.
While Kyle wore a blue suit for the dance, his then-girlfriend opted for a form-fitted maroon gown with a high slit.
She graduated from college in 2018
Hutchison graduated from the University of Alabama in 2018, earning her Bachelor of Science in Education, Kinesiology and Exercise Science.
A few years later, she went back to school to get her Master of Business Administration at LSU Shreveport.
She began working as an executive assistant for a North Carolina-based medical device sales company in May 2022, a few months before Kyle started school in the Tar Heel State.
They got engaged in late 2023
Kyle seemingly popped the question to Hutchison sometime around their second anniversary.
In April 2024, the NBA player, who was 20 at the time, and his soon-to-be bride shared a black-and-white photo with her diamond sparkler on display.
“Four months since the happiest yes I’ll ever say 💍🤍,” Hutchison wrote, suggesting that it had been four months since the proposal.
