Shannon Sharpe apologized to Megan Thee Stallion on Monday over previous sexualized comments he made about the rapper.
On the latest installment of his “Club Shay Shay” podcast, the Hall of Fame tight reflected on the controversial remarks — in which he stated, in part, “I’d have her stretched out like a quarter to three” — and apologized to Megan “for any unwanted attention, harm, shame, embarrassment that I caused you or your family.”
“Meg, before we go any further I want to apologize to you personally,” Sharpe said. “I always wanted to sit down and have a conversation with you. I didn’t know if that was going to be possible. But I was always hoping that I got an opportunity to bump into you, because I made a comment — I think it was September or October — I told a joke, I said it in jest, but I believe the joke would have been just as funny had I left you out of it. So, for any unwanted attention, harm, shame, embarrassment that I caused you or your family, I want to say as a man as I sit here before you, that I apologize.”
Megan, 29, appeared to accept Sharpe’s apology and replied, “I appreciate that, thank you.”
Sharpe, 56, made the initial remarks about Megan in November 2023 when discussing the “Savage” rapper on his “Nightcap” show alongside Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson.
The ESPN personality described, in detail, “I do it three ways, Ocho: deep, hard, and continuously…”
The backlash was swift, with critics calling out the nature of the remarks, which Sharpe addressed on-air.
“I tell you what, if Meg had a problem with anything that I’ve said, let me take the time to say I’m sorry, I apologize,” Sharpe said.
During Monday’s episode of “Club Shay Shay,” Sharpe toasted to Megan and her “amazing career.”
“Anytime someone comes on the show, we have to toast because you’ve been amazing and you have an amazing career going forward,” he said before the two clinked glasses.
