Thomas Markle has never met his grandkids — but he’s “very sad” about their upbringing.
Meghan Markle’s estranged father recently told the Daily Mail that he feels Prince Archie, 5, and Princess Lilibet, 3, have been “denied the right to know their cousins” in the royal family.
The 79-year-old added that Prince William and Kate Middleton’s three kids — Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, 9, and Prince Louis, 6 — “look like fantastic children.”
Thomas called this familial relationship, as well as a chance to “take part in things like Trooping the Colour,” his grandchildren’s “birthright.”
He noted, “They are getting to the age where they will start to ask questions, as all kids do. I find myself wondering how Archie and Lilibet will feel in a few years’ time when they realize all the things they have missed out on.”
The retired TV lighting director’s comments came during the same interview in which he compared himself to Prince Harry’s dad, King Charles III.
“I would love to speak to him because I am sure he has as many unanswered questions as I do,” Thomas said in June. “I have so many questions I’d like to ask Meghan and Harry.
“The main one being, why have they treated not only me but the royal family and the king so badly?” he continued, adding that he feels “deep empathy” for the monarch, 75, amid his cancer battle.
Thomas, meanwhile, considers himself to be “in the same boat,” as he is “not in the best health.”
Meghan, 42, has not had a relationship with her father for years, with Thomas never having met Harry, 39, and repeatedly bashing them in interviews.
While the couple maintain a close bond with the former actress’s mom, Doria Ragland, their relationship with the royals has been strained since they left England in 2020.
Meghan and Harry have blasted his family members across the pond in recent years with an Oprah Winfrey interview, a Netflix docuseries and a bombshell memoir.
While Harry has made visits home over the years, his wife often stays back in their Montecito, Calif., home with their little ones.
The family of four skipped out on Trooping the Colour last month for the second year in a row.
The event marked Middleton’s first royal appearance while battling cancer.
The Princess of Wales, who revealed her diagnosis in March, was all smiles in an upcycled white gown on the Buckingham Palace balcony.
Hours ahead of the major moment, Meghan unveiled her American Riviera Orchard brand‘s jam and dog biscuits, leaving many to claim the debut was an attempt to steal her sister-in-law’s thunder.
Meghan and Harry issued a joint statement supporting Middleton amid her health scare and have also reached out in private.
