Man charged after cache of firearms seized in city’s northwest

A Calgary man has been charged with firearms offences after numerous guns were found illegally stored at his northwest home.

Acting on a tip, police on May 24 searched a home in the 0-100 block of Bermuda Dr. N.W. where they found five rifles and five shotguns “carelessly” kept.

Police say they also found prohibited devices such as a firearms silencer, taser and loaded overcapacity magazines, along with 1,700 rounds of loose ammunition.

On Friday, May 24, 2024, following an investigation into an individual believed to be carelessly storing firearms, officers executed a search warrant.

Pierre-Luc Brassard, 37, has been charged with nine counts of careless storage of a firearm and one count of possession of a prohibited device.

Arising from a separate incident, he’s also charged with uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm.

He’s to appear in court July 9.

City police have said a large portion of guns used in local crimes are stolen from homes and other locales.

“In this case, information from the public and solid police work resulted in the seizure of dangerous firearms and weapons that could have easily ended up in the wrong hands,” Acting Insp. Scott Neilson said in a press release.

“This is a prime example of the importance of community involvement in proactive policing. If you see something, say something; timely reporting of suspicious activity can make all the difference.”
