Anthony Richardson throws down thunderous dunk in positive Colts sign

One of the NFL’s most intriguing young quarterbacks seems to be rebounding well from injury.

In videos posted to X on Friday, NFL agent Deiric Jackson shared footage of his client, second-year Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson, throwing during a workout, including unfurling a deep ball.

The real showstopper, though, was a ridiculous reverse windmill dunk that the 6-foot-4 quarterback executed effortlessly.

“5 looks good to me,” Jackson wrote on X.

Richardson suffered an AC joint injury in his right (throwing) shoulder during Week 5 of his rookie campaign, something which he chose to have repaired via surgery — but which sidelined him for the rest of 2023.

During the Colts’ mandatory minicamp on June 6, some red flags were raised when Richardson didn’t participate, with head coach Shane Steichen saying that Richardson had “some soreness.”

Richardson then quelled concerns by claiming that he was “good” and just had “a little soreness.”

The No. 4 pick in last year’s draft was up and down during the first look into his pro career, passing for just 577 yards and three touchdowns in four starts (though the final was cut well short) and earning a 52.2 overall grade from Pro Football Focus.

Richardson is also known for his dynamic athleticism, accumulating the highest relative athletic score among quarterback prospects in NFL history — and running a superb 4.43 40-yard dash.

As a runner, Richardson gained 136 yards on 25 attempts in his first season, good for 5.4 yards per carry.

However, the former Florida quarterback struggled with ball security, fumbling three times in his final two games.

Without Richardson for 12 games last year — due to his shoulder injury as well as a concussion — the Colts finished 9-8 despite playing backup Gardner Minshew, narrowly missing the postseason in Steichen’s inaugural season.

But with Richardson back in the saddle, he’s become a popular candidate to break out in his second NFL season due to his ridiculous raw talent.

The 22-year-old should benefit from not only a clean bill of health, but also the return of running back Jonathan Taylor and the addition of second-round receiver Adonai Mitchell.

All told, with Richardson, Taylor, Michael Pittman Jr., Mitchell and Josh Downs, Steichen’s offense could be one of the more exciting in 2024.

Richardson and the Colts will return to the practice field on July 24 — giving the quarterback a few more weeks to pull off some eye-popping dunks before ownership weighs in.
