Two Calgary police officers injured by suspected impaired driver

Two city police officers were injured late Thursday night when their vehicle was struck by an SUV driven by a suspected impaired motorist in Calgary’s northwest.

Just before midnight two officers who were in the midst of a traffic stop on Beddington Tr. west of Hidden Valley Link N.W. were sitting in a marked police vehicle parked on the curb on the right side of the road.

“A silver SUV struck their vehicle. The driver of the vehicle pulled over at the scene,” CPS said in a press release.

“Two additional CPS officers attended to assist and observed signs of impairment when speaking to the driver of the SUV. The driver was taken into custody at the scene and refused to provide a breath sample upon demand.”

Injuries suffered by the two officers were minor and didn’t require hospitalization.

Oghenetega Iyeke, 40, has been charged with two counts of impaired driving causing bodily harm and one count of failure or refusal to comply with a demand – alcohol.
