Drumheller RCMP arrest suspect for impersonating police officer

A Drumheller resident has been arrested following an attempt to stop a vehicle using flashing red and blue lights.

On Thursday at approximately 9:45 a.m., Drumheller RCMP received a complaint from a motorist regarding a black Jeep Patriot.

The complainant said they were driving near Highway 9 and secondary Highway 840 in Wheatland County when the Jeep, with red and blue flashing lights, “maneuvered behind the complainant and followed closely” in an apparent attempt to stop the complainant, RCMP said in a news release.

The Jeep followed the complainant closely, and while the complainant slowed, they did not come to a stop after forming the opinion that the Jeep was not a police vehicle.

The Jeep then passed the complainant going an estimated speed of more than 150 km per hour, according to police.

Officers located the suspect vehicle on Highway 9 near Drumheller, and took the lone occupant into custody without incident. Officers searched the vehicle and found removable red and blue flashing lights, a speaker and siren system and contraband cigarettes.

Cory Clark, 43, has been charged with using equipment to impersonate a police officer, driving a motor vehicle with unlawful flashing lamps, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, stunting, breach of probation and possession of contraband cigarettes.

Clark is scheduled to appear in court on July 12.
