Ford recalls half-million-plus F-150 pickups over transmission

Older Ford trucks can suddenly downshift into first, an issue which has plagued various model years of F-150 since 2016

According to documents provided to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, there may be a problem with a sensor that can cause the transmission to unexpectedly downshift to first gear while being driven at any speed, potentially causing the rear wheels to slow down on their own. This could cause a loss of control of the vehicle which can lead to an accident — and numerous complaints have been filed over the years. Ford claims reports of this incident for the 2014 model year trucks number less than that of previous model years recalled.
