U.K. firm to remaster vintage Ford RS200, Escort rally cars

The classic racers are the first Ford-endorsed projects Boreham Motorworks will undertake, with more in the pipe

  • British company Boreham Motorworks is remixing some classic Euro-marketfast Fords
  • The new restomods will be built under a licensing agreement with the Blue Oval itself
  • It starts with the iconic RS200 and Escort Mk1 rally cars—but there may be more planned

And in the case of the RS200, it’s just in time for the beast’s 40th anniversary.

The company released a series of teaser images late June, and first up is the RS200, a machine launched in 1984 and engineered to compete in the World Rally Championship. Through what is being described as a brand license agreement with the Ford Motor Company, boffins at Boreham Motorworks plan to remaster the RS200, promising to recapture the special DNA of the original for drivers in the modern era.

Using phrases like “integrating advancements” and “technological innovation,” Boreham asserts it can deliver a peak analogue driving experience, suggesting this RS200 redux could have the type of driving modes which permit safety nets to be cast aside with wild abandon.

Meanwhile, the Escort Mk1 first showed up in the late 1960s and quickly became synonymous with rallying success, owing to a light weight and suspension setup with was very advanced for its era. This time around, Boreham is committing to “blueprint-accurate period-sympathetic” vehicles with continuation VINs. The latter is of special note, and arguably one of the more important details in this project, though what look like LED headlights in the teaser images released do make us question exactly what level of accuracy the company’s aiming for.

But it’s not like gearheads will simply be able to stroll into a Ford store and pick up one of these recreations. The website for Boreham Motorworks features a section in which a person can apply “to be considered” for an opportunity to purchase. They must also reside in a major market, like the U.S.A., Canada, South America, U.K., Europe, Middle East, or Asia. Applications are opening next month.
