Cougar sightings in Lethbridge in the past week

Lethbridge residents have been alerted to the presence of cougars in the city after sightings in the past week.

A cougar was first seen last Tuesday morning, when police got a report of one being spotted in the Indian Battle Heights subdivision.

Following the sighting, area schools were informed and told to keep students inside, and the public was asked to stay away from the area. The schools were updated after the cougar could not be located following an extensive search.

Another sighting came Friday morning, in the coulees along the southwest side of Whoop Up Drive.

Again, the cougar could not be found after an extensive search.

And on Friday evening, at about 5:00 p.m., Lethbridge police got another report of a cougar in the coulees, in the Indian Battle Park area.

Fish and Wildlife cleared the area and placed signage to increase awareness, said Lethbridge police.

“Residents are advised to remain cautious about the cougar’s possible presence in the area and to continue to avoid Indian Battle Park for the time being,” said police.

Anyone who sees a cougar is asked to call Lethbridge police at 403-328-4444.
