Yankees’ Aaron Judge reveals decision to skip Home Run Derby: ‘No need this year’

Aaron Judge will undoubtedly be in Texas for the All-Star Game, but he won’t be in the Home Run Derby.

Judge said Saturday he would not participate in the event, despite leading the majors with 28 homers — with his latest traveling over the right-field fence in the first inning of Saturday’s game against the Braves.

“I’m not doing it,’’ Judge said before the Yankees faced Atlanta at the Stadium.

He added that people surrounding the event have asked if he would participate, but he declined.

“There’s no need this year,’’ Judge said.

Asked if he was finished with the event for good, Judge said he would do it again.

“I’m not done with it,’’ said Judge, who won it in 2017 as a rookie. “Once it’s back in New York, I’ll be there.”

Judge and Giancarlo Stanton took part in on-field batting practice prior to Saturday’s game, a rarity in The Bronx.
