00s movie icon’s ‘cringe’ Netflix film ripped apart by unimpressed viewers

This week saw Netflix release Trigger Warning – an action revenge movie heralding the return of noughties icon Jessica Alba.

The 43-year-old began her acting career as a teenager, when she was cast as the lead of the sci-fi action series Dark Angel.

Since then, she went on to star as Sue Storm in 2005’s Fantastic Four and its sequel, the dance romcom Honey in 2003, and 2005’s gritty comic book movie Sin City.

In Trigger Warning, she stars as special forces commando Parker, who returns to her small town home in America following the mysterious death of her father.

Taking ownership of her dad’s bar, Parker soon runs afoul of a violent gang – embroiled in a violent conspiracy surrounding her father’s death.

Following its release, the film quickly shot to the top of the charts to become the number one film in the UK on Netflix.

Unfortunately, that hasn’t stopped the film from being eviscerated from viewers, who were quick to air their distaste.

Taking to Twitter, a number of viewers shared their thoughts on Jessica’s latest action opus… and the verdict isn’t good.

‘Watching Trigger Warning. Damn … it’s bad, so bad … I love female lead action movies, Jessica Alba is beautiful , but this is just cringe,’ said LiniBKK.

‘Jessica Alba’s amazing action chops were wasted in Trigger Warning. More of her please but in better movies,’ wrote malonespeaking.

‘I watched Trigger Warning on Netflix last night. I’m a fan of Jessica Alba, but that movie is really bad,’ said stephrockscali.

‘Wow, Jessica Alba stars in the worse movie Lifetime forgot to make. Trigger Warning was dreadful,’ agreed 5Noxa.

This, unfortunately, is the latest in a series of flops from Jessica, who hasn’t managed to achieve a positive score since 2015… at best.

The last three of the actress’s films in the last ten years have polled less than 30 percent on Rotten Tomatoes – with 2019’s Killers Anonymous pulling in a 0% critics score and an audience rating of only 16%.

And it’s looking like Trigger Warning will do little to reverse the Into The Blue star’s fortunes – it currently has a 24% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes.

The audience score is even lower, at 19%, with viewers picking holes in the film’s performances, screenplay and ‘flat’ storytelling.

Her earlier work may have scored better with critics and audiences, but it wasn’t all fun for the actress and businesswoman.

Reflecting on her earlier work with Marie Claire, Jessica opened up about how ‘objectified’ and ‘uncomfortable’ she felt during her noughties heyday.

‘I had a show that premiered when I was 19,’ she told Marie Claire in an interview.

‘And right away, everyone formed a strong opinion about me because of the way I was marketed.

‘I was supposed to be sexy, this tough action girl. That’s what people expected… I wanted to be chic and elegant!’
