The other motorcyclist, a 50-year-old man, was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

STE-LUCE — A 66-year-old motorcyclist died from his injuries a few hours after a collision on Route 132 in Ste-Luce, in the Bas-Saint-Laurent region.

The collision with another motorcyclist occurred Friday around 6 p.m. near the intersection of Tibo St.

“According to initial information, a 66-year-old motorcyclist was travelling eastbound on Route 132 and allegedly made a pass,” said Élizabeth Marquis-Guy, a spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec (SQ ). “When he re-entered the lane, he did not notice another motorcyclist who was also travelling in the east direction and slowing down.”

The 66-year-old man was in critical condition when taken to hospital, where he died. The other motorcyclist, a 50-year-old man, was also taken to hospital with minor injuries.

A section of Route 132 was closed to traffic in both directions for a few hours to allow the SQ to investigate the scene of the accident.

“A police officer trained in collision investigation was dispatched to the scene to establish the causes and circumstances,” Marquis-Guy said.

The SQ investigation is continuing.
