Chicago homeowner fights off burglar with frying pan: ‘My wife’s not happy about the decision I made’

A resourceful Chicago homeowner used a frying pan to battle a burglar who’d broken into his home, dramatic security camera footage shows.

Jason Williams was driving home from work when he got an alert from his alarm system that someone had forced entry into his house in Logan Square on the city’s Northwest Side around 3:30 p.m. Thursday, ABC 7 Chicago reported.

“I came in the house, I looked if there was an available weapon… there was a frying pan laying there, so I grabbed the frying pan, and at the same time the burglar came downstairs,” Williams told the outlet.

“At this point it was fight or flight, and I would rather do the fighting,” he added.

Security video shows Williams chasing the burglar down his front steps, frying pan in hand, just as Chicago police officers were arriving at the scene.

The burglar can be seen sprinting ahead of Williams around his yard, attempting to shield his head with his hands, video shows.

Williams appears to strike the man on the arm before the burglar is able to the front gate open and run off as an officer gives chase.

“This could have had a different ending, and I’m glad it had a good one,” Williams said. “My wife’s not happy about the decision I made… probably wouldn’t do it again, but it is what it is.”
