Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for the City of Calgary and surrounding areas.
Storms are expected to develop this afternoon and move slowly eastward through the day. Some of the thunderstorms may produce strong winds, damaging hail and heavy rain.
Environment Canada warns that large hail and lightning can cause serious injury, and cautions anyone in affected areas to remain indoors.
A severe thunderstorm warning occurs when there is evidence based on radar, satellite pictures, or from a reliable spotter that any one of the aforementioned conditions is imminent or occurring.
