SIRT investigating after Saskatoon police fatally shoot suspect

Officers were called to the area of Avenue V South and 20th Street West around 10:40 a.m. after someone reported an “armed person.”

A 27-year-old man died after Saskatoon city police, responding to a gun call, opened fire in a west-side neighbourhood on Thursday morning.

Officers were called to the area of Avenue V South and 20th Street West around 10:40 a.m. after someone reported an “armed person,” police said in an afternoon news release.

“Upon arrival to the area, officers located the suspect in the 200 block of Avenue S South; following a confrontation with police, officers discharged their service-issued firearms. The 27-year-old male suspect was pronounced deceased at the scene by paramedics.”

The province’s Serious Incident Response Team was notified and has taken over investigating the incident.

No further information was released.
