Karl-Anthony Towns’ injury status heading into Knicks must-win Game 5

Karl-Anthony Towns’ troublesome left knee has landed him on the injury report for Game 5.

The Knicks center was favoring the knee late in the Game 4 loss to the Pacers in the Eastern Conference finals.

The team is calling it a left knee contusion and listing him as questionable for Thursday night’s game at the Garden.

It also looked like he hurt the same knee in Game 3.

With the Knicks facing elimination, it’s hard to see Towns being unavailable unless the pain is that significant.

Asked after the game about the knee, Towns said: “I’m only thinking about the loss. I’m not thinking about that right now. So disappointing when you don’t get a win. We just didn’t do enough to get the job done.”

It has been an uneven series for Towns.

He carried the Knicks to their lone win of the series, scoring 20 points in the fourth quarter of Game 3, but he has struggled on the defensive end and his offensive production has been inconsistent.

He is averaging 25.8 points, 11.5 rebounds and shooting 52.4 percent from the field.

The Knicks, however, have been outscored by two points with Towns on the floor.

A question mark to play in Game 4 due to a sprained right ankle, Aaron Nesmith had a terrific game, producing 16 points and two steals in 32 minutes.

Still, the Pacers are listing him as questionable for Game 5.

He hurt his ankle in Game 3 and was limited upon his return.

Nesmith led the crazy Pacers comeback in the series opener with 20 fourth-quarter points and six 3-pointers and he has played terrific defense on Jalen Brunson.
