Did anyone check that critter’s ticket?
A raccoon was spotted wandering around the stands at Citi Field on Wednesday night as the Mets fell 4-0 to the Pirates, amusing SNY play-by-play man Gary Cohen and terrifying analyst Ron Darling and some unsuspecting spectators who got a surprise in their seats.
The SNY cameras caught the critter roaming during the seventh inning, making its way through one section before the clip cut to the raccoon in another part of the stands.
The camera spotted the animal pass mere inches from one fan, who didn’t realize what was happening until a few seconds later.
“Unexpected visitor, I believe he was in my garbage can last night,” Cohen said jokingly on air. “I mean, it was ‘Bark in the Park’ here on Monday. I don’t suppose somebody snuck in a raccoon on a leash.”
Darling then revealed his fear of the nocturnal nuisances.
“I’m scared of raccoons,” he said before Cohen pointed out that fans in center field didn’t seem to be aware of the animal.
“They’re not even moving. One guy is killing his chocolate,” Darling added.
Raccoons don’t appear to be that uncommon of a sighting at Citi Field, according to posts on social media.
Fans and media members have reported seeing the creatures over the years in the Mets’ Queens home.
Infamously, Francisco Lindor and Jeff McNeil even got into a disagreement and physical altercation that they said was about whether they had seen a rat or a raccoon in the tunnel leading from the dugout to the team clubhouse back in 2021, however, The Post’s Mike Puma later reported other issues were at play.
Citi Field’s other (part-time) tenant, NYCFC, also had a run-in with a raccoon last year during their season, although that encounter came during a road game in Philadelphia.
The Mets will take on the Yankees in The Bronx on Friday.
