Eagles opening 2025 NFL season against new-look Cowboys

The Eagles’ Super Bowl defense will start against a familiar foe.

Philadelphia will open the 2025 NFL season against the NFC East rival Dallas Cowboys on Thursday, Sept. 4, ESPN.com reported.

The Eagles defeated the Chiefs, 40-22, in Super Bowl LIX, and the defending champs traditionally open up the following season.

When the Eagles last won a Super Bowl in 2017, they opened the following season with an 18-12 win over the Falcons.

Philadelphia dominated in both its games against Dallas last season, outscoring them 75-13 combined in the matchups.

The Cowboys are coming off a dismal 7-10 season that led to head coach Mike McCarthy and the franchise parting ways afterwards.

Offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer was named McCarthy’s replacement and will make his head-coaching debut in the game.

Dallas will presumably have quarterback Dak Prescott back healthy after he missed the final nine games last season with a severe hamstring injury.

The Cowboys also made a splash last week by acquiring star receiver George Pickens in a trade to pair with CeeDee Lamb.

Monday’s Eagles-Cowboys announcement is part of a week-long rollout of games for the NFL schedule, culminating in a full schedule release on Wednesday night.

The second game of the season is reportedly going to be a Chargers-Chiefs matchup in Brazil on Friday, Sept. 5.

Last season started in thrilling fashion with the Chiefs beating the Ravens, 27-20, and the game coming down to a near Ravens touchdown in the final seconds that was called back when it was ruled Isaiah Likely’s foot came down out of bounds.
