Joe Schoen is double-dipping and perhaps finally solving the Giants’ franchise quarterback woes.
With Abdul Carter already selected with the No. 3 pick, the Giants traded into the first round to select quarterback Jaxson Dart with the No. 25 pick after dealing picks 34, 99 and a third-rounder in 2026 to the Texans.
This trade now gives Schoen, the general manager, and coach Brian Daboll their first chance at building around the prospect they want for the position.
The pair inherited Daniel Jones from the previous regime, although Schoen did extend Jones after his fantastic first season in a move that did not pan out.
Many pundits expected the Giants would follow this type of plan for the draft, opting to take Abdul Carter with the No. 3 pick and then either wait or trade up for a quarterback.
Rather than stay put until their second-round selection — pick No. 34 — and potentially let other teams jump them, the Giants are using valuable draft capital to secure their potential quarterback of the future.
The Giants are set up to allow Dart to learn under Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston before taking the reins, although he could potentially work his way into the Week 1 lineup.
