Olympic gymnast Paul Juda proposes to girlfriend after leading Michigan to national championship

A national championship and a fiancé all in one day.

Michigan’s Paul Juda helped lead the Wolverines’ men’s gymnastics team to a national title on Saturday by finishing second in the all-around and scoring a 13.966 on vault to clinch the championship, all before proposing to his girlfriend in front of an ecstatic crowd at Crisler Center.

With the microphone in his hand, Juda looked over at his girlfriend, fellow Michigan gymnast Reyna Guggino, and began to profess his love for her

“You make me a better man, a better person,” Juda said before dropping down to one knee and asking for Guggino’s hand in marriage.

Guggino’s eyes welled up with tears and she said yes as the fans on hand roared with excitement over the moment.

Guggino celebrated the moment in a post on social media that included a carousel of photos of Juda proposing.

“YOU & ME FOREVER,” she wrote on Instagram. “Thankful that God brought me you. One ring for the NCAAs and one ring for me. Pretty sure I got the better deal.”

Juda also posted about the engagement on his Instagram Story, sharing a video of Guggino showing off the ring he proposed to her with while she was driving and the 2015 Drake hit “Big Rings” played on the radio.

Juda had been a part of the 2024 U.S. Men’s Olympic team that captured the Bronze in Paris and was a 2021 Pan American silver medalist.

Guggino won a national championship in 2021 with the women’s gymnastics team and is a former team captain.

University of Michigan President Santa Ono congratulated the couple in a post on X.

“I couldn’t be happier for Olympic medalist @PaulJuda2 on winning both the Big Ten and national championships with @UMichGym and on his engagement to Reyna Guggino—2021 national champion and former women’s team captain. Wishing them a lifetime of happiness and fulfillment. So proud they will forever be part of the Michigan Wolverine family!” he wrote.
