The Marías are taking the plunge again.
After a successful 2024 ‘Submarine Tour’ in support of their recently-released hit sophomore album with the same name, the indie pop quartet has announced new dates for this year.
María Zardoya and co. will now hit theaters, convention centers, amphitheaters, bowls and festivals all over North America on the ‘Submarine Tour (Extended)’ with special guest Julie and Momma on select dates from April through September.
And, while they won’t hit New York on this run, they are scheduled to stop into destination fests like Coachella, Lollapalooza and Shaky Knees.
“We love you all so much,” the band shared via Instagram after wrapping the 2024 portion of their tour. thank you for coming to these shows, for singing and crying and dancing. for being in the moment with us. lining up in this summer heat. it takes a huge effort to go see a show (driving, traveling, parking, waiting, standing for so long, spending hard earned $ on a ticket or on merch). we don’t take any of it for granted.”
Since the initial leg of the ‘Submarine Tour’ concluded, the group has stayed busy recording new music. This year, they released a pair of singles — “Back to Me” and “Nobody New” — and contributed to Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco’s smash hit “Ojos Tristes.”

The Marías new music
On May 31, 2024, The Marías dropped their second studio album “Submarine.”
The record — which details lead singer María Zardoya’s split from drummer/producer Josh Conway — was a breakthrough for the group and jumped all the way to No. 17 on the Billboard charts.
Comprised of 14 sonically expansive tracks, the sensitive record makes listeners feel as if they’re underwater along with the band. Right from the jump, the jubilant “Ride” has a distorted discordant sound that sets the tone; we’re in The Marías’ world; buckle up.
Other standouts here include the funky, catwalk-ready “Run Your Mouth,” jangly yet seductive “Real Life” and the dreamy, atmospheric “Lejos de Ti,” which translates to “Far From You.”
Still, our favorite has to be the gentle bossanova-like “Ay No Puedo.” Its wishy-washy rhythms will have you sashaying along in no time.

Also, yes, the band released two singles this April. “Nobody New” is a sweet piece of shoegaze pop that would make an excellent slow dance at any self-respecting prom and the quiet anthem “Back To Me” is simultaneously epic and intimate.
Finally, Gomez and Blanco’s downbeat “Ojos Triste” will likely make thousands of “sad girl summer” playlists this year and for good reason- it’s a bit of a bummer but in the best way possible. The music may make you sad but your ears will thank you for the auditory treat.
