MIAMI — The fascinating and slightly polarizing center of the baseball universe, for a few days at least, is the field coordinator for the Miami Marlins.
In the matter of a weekend, Aaron Leanhardt has gained a national profile, enough attention that he was mobbed by media Monday and a new nickname.
“They’re calling you El Torpedo,” said Marlins outfielder Kyle Stowers, who joined the throng of reporters to get his coach’s thoughts on the moniker.
“You don’t get to pick your own nickname in this business,” a smiling Leanhardt — previously known as “Lenny” — said in reply.
