‘Bachelorette’ alum Katie Thurston, 34, reveals her breast cancer is now stage 4, has spread to her liver

Katie Thurston revealed via social media that her breast cancer has progressed to stage four and her doctors also found out the deadly disease has spread to her liver.

“After days of waiting, unfortunately, I did find out today that my breast cancer has spread to the liver,” the former “Bachelorette” star shared in a post on Instagram Friday.

“It is fairly small, however it does put me at stage four.”

In light of the new discovery, Thurston, 34, is scheduled to start her “new treatment plan,” which will involve chemotherapy beginning April 4.

“I know stage four can sound very scary, and it can be,” she continued.

Despite her prognosis, the ABC alum said she is “very optimistic” about her outcome since she is “triple positive” and the cancerous spots that doctors found on her liver are “fairly small and detected early.”

Earlier this week, Thurston told her followers she scheduled a liver biopsy after her doctors in New York ordered a PET scan, an imaging test that checks for signs of cancer in the body’s organs and tissues.

“Unfortunately in my case, it did detect some spots on my liver that were a little suspicious,” she said via her Instagram Stories at the time, per Us Weekly.

The reality TV star transferred her medical care to the city after she moved from Los Angeles.

Thurston announced she was diagnosed with stage three breast cancer in February, shortly after celebrating Valentine’s Day with her now-husband Jeff Arcuri.

“Jeff took me to Hawaii and after, we were going to travel the world before planting roots together in NYC finally. But instead, my Vday was spent coordinating a place to live as I have to go back to LA for more testing and treatment,” she wrote on Instagram at the time.

The former “Bachelor” contestant shared that she “experienced a range of emotions” following the news.

“Despair. Anger. Sadness. Denial. And then strength. Purposeful. Ready. I cried a lot. I tried to even make a video instead of this post and couldn’t,” she added.

Thurston told Us Weekly at the time, “Obviously, we were wanting to plan a wedding, and there’s a lot of emotions that come in with chemo and the impact and the health, and we don’t know what the next year looks like.”
