Fulfilling expectations hasn’t been a Mets strong suit for much of their history.
The most recent example was 2023, when the team followed a 101-win season (that ended in the wild-card round of the playoffs) with a clunker that culminated in a trade deadline sell-off and manager Buck Showalter ultimately fired.
Now big things are again expected of the Mets, after a surprise season that took them to Game 6 of the NLCS. To build off that momentum, the team signed maybe the game’s best hitter, Juan Soto, wresting him from its crosstown rival.
World Series or bust? That’s a tad extreme, but the Mets need to follow up on success.
