Yankees still breaking camp with plenty of positives — even if spring from hell suggests otherwise

Access the Yankees beat like never before

Don’t miss Greg Joyce’s text messages from spring training — he’s giving Sports+ subscribers the inside buzz on the Yankees.

LAKELAND, Fla. — Everything good going on in Yankees camp feels obscured or maybe even obliterated at the moment by their three missing stars — the former Cy Young winner out for the year, the former MVP out indefinitely and the reigning Rookie of the Year out at least the first two months.

So it’s my job to point out some positives, to finally allay some fears.

For sure, Gerrit Cole, Giancarlo Stanton and Luis Gil being out is a lot of missing impact. And, of course, the current active roster isn’t what it could be. But that doesn’t guarantee they are headed for a crash.

This isn’t necessarily 1965, when a dynasty imploded, and the famed Horace Clarke era began (apologies to Horace, who actually deserves better).
