Benny Blanco’s proposal didn’t come naturally.
The record producer and Selena Gomez told “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” viewers Thursday that he had “the scariest week of [his] life” leading up to their engagement.
“Getting engaged to someone is the craziest thing in the world,” the groom-to-be, 37, said. “Right before you’re gonna tell someone you’re gonna be married to someone forever, you’re like, ‘Show me how good you can lie to me.’”
The musician noted that Gomez, 32, became “upset” with him the evening before because he usually told her “everything” and was struggling with “bad lies.”
When he asked the actress to come to set the following day for their “I Said I Love You First” album — and his proposal — she nearly missed it and asked to “make up the shoot another day.”
Gomez explained, “I woke up and was very confused on what was happening or where we were going because it seemed kind of far. I was kind of a little grumpy [and] really tired.”
The “Wizards of Waverly Place” alum even told her partner that she wanted to “go hang out with [her] friends” after the shoot.
When Jimmy Fallon asked whether the eventual engagement “went off without a hitch,” Blanco replied, “I guess so. Yeah. I forgot everything.”
The “Only Murders in the Building” star chimed in, “I freaked out.”
The couple got engaged in December 2024 with Gomez debuting her marquise-cut ring in a celebratory Instagram post.
“forever begins now,” the former Disney Channel star gushed at the time, also sharing a photo of the picnic blanket setup — which included Taco Bell.
Taylor Swift hilariously commented, “Yes I will be the flower girl.”
Blanco and Gomez have been together since 2023.
The pair clarified that they haven’t “figured anything out” in terms of wedding planning while busy collaborating on their “very fun but cathartic” record.
Gomez referred to the album as “an exploration of each other’s present, past and future,” gushing, “We got to get to know each other on a deeper level.”
