Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis have torn down half of their $17M California seaside getaway

Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis are ready for a fresh start at their seaside escape.

The Hollywood pair are undertaking dramatic renovations at their $17 million Carpinteria, California home more than two years after a series of floods and mudslides devastated the seaside community. Recent aerial photos, first reported by Realtor.com, show their main home gutted and the nearby day cottage — in which the couple once hosted a gratis one-night Airbnb stay — razed to the ground.

The changes come at a quiet time for the couple, who have largely remained out of the spotlight following personal controversies over their words of support for actor and convicted rapist Danny Masterson — and Kutcher’s past ties to disgraced music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs.

The couple purchased the two-home getaway in Santa Barbara County for $10.1 million in 2017, according to Realtor.com. The Arroyo Burro Beach home counts stars like Kevin Costner and George Lucas among its neighbors.

The property was originally built in 1991, according to Zillow. The 6-acre plot includes a four-bed, four-bath main house and a small cottage close to the sand.

Heavy rainfall across the state in late 2022 and early 2023 triggered flooding and mudslides in Carpinteria, causing a waterway alongside Kutcher and Kunis’ home to rise up and swamp their property with sludge and debris, Realtor.com reported. The flooding hit other notable properties in the celebrity enclave, including the beach home of Travis Barker and Kourtney Kardashian.

Recent aerial photos show the main house covered in plastic tarps, with its two-story porch, outdoor stairs and chimney gone. The day home is completely torn down.

Their beachside home isn’t the couple’s main abode. Kutcher, 47, and Kunis, 41, live in a custom-built Beverly Hills mansion with their two children. The farmhouse-style residence was featured in Architectural Digest in 2021.

The “That ’70s Show” sweethearts once called the Carpinteria property “our home away from home,” in a 2023 Airbnb listing.

Kutcher was an early angel investor in Airbnb, and saw his joint 2011 investment of $2.5 million turn into a stake worth $90 million, according to Forbes. Kutcher and Kunis offered up their day cottage up for a $0 one-night stay on Airbnb in August 2023. In turn, Airbnb made a one-time donation to Kutcher’s anti-child sex abuse charity, Thorn, from which Kutcher resigned one month later.

The listing for the two-bedroom Santa Barbara County beach house, titled “Ashton & Mila’s Oceanfront Oasis” advertised “views of the Santa Ynez mountains,” and “no shortage of sights and plenty of activities to make for an unforgettable summer stay.”

Listing photos showed quaint, beachy interiors, a large main bed and another room with bunkbeds. The home also included a small kitchen, a cozy sitting area and a hot tub on a picturesque deck.

The listing was quickly snapped up and the Hollywood pair posted videos on their socials meeting up with their renters.

Kunis and Kutcher have been otherwise inactive in the public sphere for the past two years. The pair faced significant controversy in 2023 when they wrote character reference letters for their former “That ’70s Show” co-star Danny Masterson during his rape trial, for which they later publicly apologized. Kutcher was brought back into the spotlight in recent months for his friendship with Sean “Diddy” Combs, who now faces criminal sex trafficking charges.
