Unimpressed Mariah Carey goes viral for reaction to iHeartRadio Music Awards 2025 tribute

Oh, the emotions.

Mariah Carey did not appear impressed by the musical tributes to her during the 2025 iHeartRadio Music Awards.

The “We Belong Together” singer, 55, was honored on Monday night at LA’s Dolby Theater — and one clip of Carey has since gone viral.

During R&B singer Muni Long’s tribute performance of “We Belong Together,” Carey was caught turning her head away from the stage and giving a “disinterested” side-eye glance toward her rumored boyfriend Anderson .Paak.

Several of the singer’s fans rushed to X to talk about the now-viral clip, and many think it is proof the “Hero” songstress was not excited by Long and Tori Kelly’s tributes to her.

“Mariah Carey is not feeling these performances and is not hiding that fact,” one viewer wrote. “Lol.”

“The way Mariah Carey can’t help but show her disinterest on her face but I get it I’m the same my face tells everything,” another person wrote. “She cracks me up.”

“This gif of Mariah Carey will go down in history,” a third person who watched the ceremony tweeted.

“Some people say more with their face than they can articulate in words,” another commenter weighed in.

“She was wondering why they didn’t book Ariana [Grande],” yet another person quipped.

The “Vision of Love” singer also turned heads when she took the stage to accept this year’s Icon Award — which was presented to her by LL Cool J.

Although Carey gave a moving acceptance speech in which she thanked her fans and paid tribute to her late mother, Patricia Carey, she began her speech by joking about the lighting on the stage.

“Is the lighting OK,” the singer teased, “because I don’t like bad lighting.”

“Thank you iHeart for this incredible honor,” Carey continued. “As a kid, I used to listen to my favorite artist on the radio and dream of being on the airwaves myself.”

“Now, for those of you who may not know what airwaves are, think of it as the non-Wi-Fi version of streaming, OK?” she joked further. “Even now I still get excited when I hear one of my songs playing on the radio. It never stops being magical.”

The “Fantasy” hitmaker then gave a shout-out to her fans — whom she has dubbed her “Lambily” — before mentioning her mom.

“To my fans, Lambily, you’ve been with me through every step of this journey,” Carey said. “Your love and loyalty are the greatest gift, and I’m endlessly thankful for each one of you.”

“On this Saint Patrick’s Day, I want to honor my mother Patricia Carey for giving me the gift of music,” Carey concluded her acceptance speech.

The “Obsessed” singer’s mother and sister both passed away in August. Carey’s mother was 87. Her sister, Alison Carey, was 63.

“My heart is broken that I’ve lost my mother this past weekend,” Carey told People at the time. “Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister lost her life on the same day.”

“I feel blessed that I was able to spend the last week with my mom before she passed,” the singer added. “I appreciate everyone’s love and support and respect for my privacy during this impossible time.”

Carey’s appearance at the iHeartRadio Music Awards comes weeks after she sparked concerns during a concert in Las Vegas in February.
